Banthanor celebrates the Rite of Tranquility, and becomes a Ranger; during the rite, Tenderleaf's new status as Elder is announced, and Celegil's long-anticipated demotion to Ranger is made official.
Celegil, Tenderleaf and Amplisa report no real progress from their investigations in Northrend. Caliyen reports some success from her investigation in Stormwind, but she and Amplisa are now in trouble with the Guard, without yet having found the ultimate destination of the stolen artifacts.
Aldrannath is alarmed by the signs he perceives in Banthanor's hunt, but is vague about exactly what has upset him so much. He asks Salabadon and the others to go with him to Northrend and investigate the omens further. He later explains his understanding of the signs privately to Salabadon.

Salabadon and Aldrannath go to Northrend to further investigate the portents; Celegil, Caliyen, Amplisa and Banthanor accompany them there. They discover that some of the Scourged trolls of Drak'Tharon Keep have been taking live prisoners; investigating further, they find another half-formed manifestation of the beast they faced in Zul'Gurub, and a few live trolls who have apparently been driven mad by it. One of them escapes.
At the Rite of the Hunt, Karael reports success in her ongoing mission for the Ancients, but seems disturbed and leaves early. Fain is present, and the Draenei Armanor is permitted to participate in the Rite, to the surprise and consternation of several of the younger Kaldorei. The Kaldorei agree that their efforts to stop the beast of Zul'Gurub must continue; they make plans to return to Northrend and investigate the fate of the deranged Drakkari trolls.
The Draenei Armanor seeks advice from the Druids regarding his troubled mental state. Banthanor privately reports his dark dreams to Aldrannath.

The followers of the Way travel to Northrend. Aldrannath takes them to the altar of Frostblade Peak, to explain the nature of the danger they all face.
They go to investigate the troll tombs at Drakil'jin, suspecting that the deranged batrider might have gone there. They find signs of a dark ritual, and a mad and mutilated troll, who utters strange and disturbing prophecies. The Oracle tells them that "Moora'jin, son of Moorabi" had come there to "give hisself to tha darkness" and had returned to Gundrak.
They decide to seek this "Moora'jin" in Gundrak. Celegil sets out at once to scout for a safe way to enter the city. The others set up camp on a small island near the ruins of Telnys, then leave at once for Zul'Drak.

Celegil is caught and taken prisoner by the Drakkari trolls while scouting for a way into Gundrak. The other followers enter the troll city a few hours later, still searching for Moora'jin but also desperately hoping to find Celegil alive. Thanks to the guidance of the Zandalari, they find Moora'jin and kill him; nearby they also find the lair of a huge and hideously deformed gurloc, which had clearly been touched by the same darkness as Moora'jin himself. They find Celegil there, comatose and desperately weak from blood loss; she had apparently been offered to the mutated gurloc as some kind of sacrifice.
Distraught, Salabadon takes Celegil back to Moonglade, accompanied by most of the other followers; Aldrannath remains in Northrend to contemplate what they have learned.

Caliyen and Amplisa are reassigned to the Sentinels of Star's Rest; the Cenarion Circle instructs Aldrannath and Banthanor to return to Northrend and learn whatever they can about the beast the followers have been struggling with. To Aldrannath's astonishment and delight, the old priestess Vaelitha appears at the Rite of the Hunt, and is reinstated to the Way as an Elder.
The novice Druid Elendos Sageclaw accompanies the followers to Star's Rest. Aldrannath, anxious to enter the Old Kingdom of the Nerubians as soon as possible, leads some of the other followers in a reconnaissance mission to the Pit of Narjun. The defending forces are stronger than anticipated, and Amplisa is hurt fighting them off.
Once out of danger, Amplisa is sent home to Kalimdor to heal. The hunter Vennidaar arrives at Star's Rest in search of Vaelitha, and is welcomed into the group. The Sentinel Verya also arrives at Star's Rest; Aldrannath takes the two of them and Caliyen to Frostblade Peak to explain to them the true nature of their mission.

A large group assembles for the Rite of Sacrifice and the incursion into the Old Kingdom of the Nerubians. Armanor is present with his new student, but she refuses to take the oath of Sacrifice, and is not permitted to join the group. Banthanor leads Armanor, Adhenu and Lawrauleth into the Pit of Narjun, to occupy the Scourge forces; they meet with stiff resistance and eventually have to withdraw, mission accomplished.
Meanwhile Vaelitha leads Aldrannath, Caliyen and Shanna Tenderleaf by a different route into the Kingdom; thanks to Banthanor's diversion, they encounter only patchy resistance from the Scourge, and are able to descend into the lower regions of the Kingdom. There they find cultists conducting a ritual apparently similar to the rite of Moora'jin in the troll tombs; Vaelitha takes a copy of the cultists' inscriptions. They also find a few Faceless Ones, escaped from the Pit through what Aldrannath describes as a "crack". Having done what they can to hold back the taint, they withdraw to Star's Rest.

A number of newcomers are present for the Rite of the Hunt, including Blueleaff and her new human student, and two messengers from the Cenarion Guardians. Afterwards, a young priestess named Callariel approaches the Elders, and is accepted as a Seeker.
Vaelitha consults with the scholar Kelenos, and learns that the ritual in Ahn'Kahet was an invocation of the Old God, Yogg-Saron.
At a meeting in Moonglade with Rommos and Calendor of the Cenarion Circle, the Death Knight Imrasz appears unexpectedly, to inform Tenderleaf that the Lich defeated in Drak'Tharon Keep, Thel'voros, has taken new form and become the new tenant of Naxxramas. Knowing that Thel'voros had been enslaved by the Beast they seek, the Elders settle on a plan to seek out the Lich, and learn the true name of his master; Rommos and Calendor approve the plan, with some reservations. A Sin'dorei spy is spotted, eavesdropping on their discussion; she is caught, but escapes before she can be questioned.
Deliaris encounters followers of the Way in Auberdine, and quickly becomes a subject of suspicion, but they eventually decide that she is harmless. In a private ritual in Darkshore, Elendos Sageclaw and Aldrannath accept one another as student and teacher.

The followers of the Way, aided by Galapheral, enter the ancient Nerubian citadel of Naxxramas, to find the Lich Thel'voros and learn, if they can, the true name of his new master. They meet fierce resistance and are forced to withdraw, with the Death Knight defenders hot on their heels. Galapheral stays behind to cover their retreat, but is quickly overwhelmed, and is brought away by Celegil, bleeding heavily and close to death.
The Elders Vaelitha and Aldrannath, already exhausted by the fighting, struggle to save her, deciding at last to perform the rare and dangerous Rite of Blood. Celegil is overcome with revulsion and withdraws, but Caliyen, Vennidaar and the two Elders each give their blood to strengthen Galapheral, saving her. The group return to Kalimdor together, to heal their wounds and recover their strength.
Celegil, Tenderleaf and Aldrannath go to report on Galapheral's efforts to the Cenarion Guardians. The High Guardian Sarama is eventually content with Galapheral's actions, but Elder Shanna Tenderleaf is offended by the rude and aggressive manner of her cross-examination.
Cyrine meets Celegil and the Elders Theronth and Aldrannath in Auberdine, and is named a Seeker of the Way. Both Elders are concerned that she is dangerously quick to judge, and decide to watch her closely.
Sometime later, Karael returns to Auberdine in a heavily distressed state, and tells her kin of a disturbance of the Balance in Eldre'Thalas. According to Karael, a foul Highborne experiment is taking place which involves a demon and an abundance of Arcane energy. She is concerned that the foul ritual might spell doom for the surrounding forest. After Karael has done her tale, she departs in an even more distressed state, leaving Caliyen and Celegil to question her motives.
The following evening, Elder Theronth leads a War Council; Celegil is sent to Feralas to find Karael and investigate whether her concerns about the Highborne are true. The other followers of the Way agree to return to Northrend as soon as possible.
When Ilaana learns of Celegil's journey to Feralas, she offers to go in her stead. Later, Ilaana meets Vaelitha and also informs the Priestess of her impending journey.

The followers of the Way return to Naxxramas, aided by Kiva and Shandaris of the Moonguard, and the taciturn warrior who had pledged his support at the Rite of the Hunt. This time, their incursion is more successful; they find a door leading to the lair of the Lich Thel'voros, and a slime-choked passageway allowing them to bypass many of the undead guards that bar the way from the entrance. They agree to return once more in greater force, to finish their task.
While gathering strength for a further incursion into Naxxramas, some of the followers of the Way, accompanied by three of the Moonguard, return to the Drakil'jin tombs. Aldrannath is anxious to see whether more of the Drakkari have given themselves over to the Beast, and is relieved to discover no fresh signs of the dark rituals performed by Moora'jin. The mutilated and emaciated troll "Oracle" regales them with more of his strange and disturbing prophecies, warning the Moonguard that they will regret their association with the Way.

The Moonguard come to aid the followers of the Way once again in their attempts to reach the Lich Thel'voros. After a tense Rite of Sacrifice, the group enters the citadel, but are unable to overcome the undead guards in the ancient audience chamber. Exhausted and bruised, but otherwise with mercifully few injuries, the Kaldorei regroup in the woods. Celegil, Caliyen and Aldrannath agree that Naxxramas has defeated them for the time being, and travel south to Feralas, to answer Karael's call for help.

Shanna Tenderleaf and Celegil's mother Ilaana travel to Feralas ahead of the others to try and find Karael and to see the extent of the damage. They find Karael in a state of distress and try to calm her, letting her know others are on their way. Shanna slows the rate of damage to the forest from the leak of arcane through use of her druidic powers, and an infused acorn. When they go to tell Karael the good news and take her back with them, they find she has disappeared again.

Heeding Karael's call for help, the Followers of the Way entered the ruins of Eldre'thalas to see what could be done. Clearly unbalanced, Karael showed them the source of the arcane disturbance - huge crystals that powered an immense arcane prison. Following her instruction, they destroyed the crystals and made their way to the prison. Witnessing the now freed demon kill the summoners that had trapped it, they then attacked it themselves and managed to bring it low. Elder Theronth interred the demon into the earth, covering all traces of it. As they left the ruin, weary, but satisfied with their completing the task set, they encountered something unexpected. A Highborne ghost appeared, and tried to claim Karael. It hinted that she had been in contact with Karael, and wished to 'keep her'. The ghost was defeated and destroyed, or fled, and they managed to leave with an unconcious Karael.

Vennidaar becomes a Ranger of the Way in the Rite of Tranquility. The Rite is interrupted by the reappearance of the Highbourne ghost that had been pursuing Karael. The ghost informs the followers that her sister in Outland serves "the Beast", and mockingly urges them to seek her out.
After concluding the Rite, the Elders agree that while the ghost may be lying, they cannot miss this opportunity to learn the name of the Beast. Preparations are set in motion for the journey to Outland.

The followers of the Way make the long journey to Outland; passing through Stormwind, Caliyen (who is wanted for questioning by the guard) and the other Sentinels narrowly escape capture, but they manage to lose their pursuers in the forest.
Exploring Zangarmarsh, the Kaldorei encounter Armanor, who is clearly not quite himself. He agrees to help them in their mission, realising that the peace of his homeland, as well as the spirits, may be served by the death of the new Lady of the Coilfang.
For the assault on the fortress of the Coilfang Naga, the followers are joined by members of the Moonguard, and a Cenarion Warden of the Expedition. They fight their way through the defending Naga and Elemental guards, and destroy the Kraken enslaved by Thel'naxress, but are halted at the last by the magical defences of the Lady herself. Endangered by the gathering forces of the Naga, they retreat, with her mocking laughter ringing in their ears.
