Hi folks just wondered what were peoples opinions on making guild chat ic. I am still new so i dont know if this has been previously discussed and tbh i am not fully aware of the ramifications it may have. Just thought it might provide an extra bit of rp,maybe if we all had x item that provided a link to each other or something like that. Just looking for peoples feelings towards it:)

I don't think it makes much sense for the Way, since we tend to disdain both technology and arcane magic - the two best excuses for an IC guild chat.

Big no there, roleplaying over guildchat is quite uninteresting and fruitless.

We used to have IC guild chat in the Cenarion Guardians, way back when. The excuse was some kind of Druidic magic. The thing was, even though it was Druidic, our characters were quite rightly reluctant to use it except in emergencies. The result was that guild chat was almost totally dead. Later on we switched to having OOC guild chat, with the option of going IC on the rare occasions when it was needed.
In WoM I've never yet felt the need for it. Our characters make extensive use of trained (or Druid-guided) birds to carry messages over moderate distances, plus ships and Druidic magic as needed to communicate between continents. By allowing time to stretch a bit (saying "a few days have passed" when IRL it's only half an hour) we've always been able to avoid anything illogical. I don't think it would feel natural for our characters to be constantly on the phone to one another, and generally speaking if we're in character at all, we're together anyway. Besides, I enjoy the OOC chat and banter we get in /guild; it's a fun way to crack jokes or discuss things while our characters are being so serious IC.
I like the blend we have of complex, sometimes difficult IC relationships with a relaxed and friendly OOC atmosphere; I'd worry that IC guild chat might work against the second of those.

I agree with Aldrannath here.
In my first RP Guild, our guildchat was IC. However, I've noticed over the years that this system feels a bit wierd. Its like phoning someone up. It also eliminates a lot of potential good plots which are supported by the fact that characters are unable to get into contact with each other.
Also, I think a guildchat channel is vital to keep the OOC spirits up. If the relations aren't good OOC, then you can forget about good RP.
Therefore, I agree with what Ald says.

You're welcome Venni. I'm glad you raise these questions, it doesn't hurt to review the way we do things, and clarity is a good thing too. Someday you'll start one of these threads and we'll all go "gosh, why didn't we think of that before?" ;D
