Hey there everyone!
I recently re-discovered the benefits of Steam after I didn't use it for a few months.
For those who don't know what Steam is. Its a platform on which you can buy games, have a friends list (much like MSN), a very good ingame browser and communities! At the moment, World of Warcraft is a so called 'Non-Steam game'. However, by using the option 'add a Non-Steam game', you can use the Steam Overlay ingame much like you can in a Steam game.
Now, what the heck are communities? Simple, its basically a group with its own profile where you can keep in contact with everyone who is online. It also has its own event calendar which gives you a notification when an event is going to start. Here's an example how it can work:
Celegil forgot its meeting time on 8 July at 21:00 and is still playing a different game. Aldranath has made an announcement on the Steam Community page about this meeting. At 21:00, Celegil gets an announcement in the bottom right of the screen that says: 'Rite of the Hunt is now starting!' Celegil immediately rushes off.
Or
Celegil wants to talk things over with Aldrannath. However, Aldrannath seems to be AFK but is online. Celegil is playing World of Warcraft and is online. Celegil sends an instant message to Aldrannath. Aldrannath sees the message out of game and can immediately reply.
So. These are some of the major benefits of this system. People who enroll on our community page will see straight away when events are starting and are notified of these when they start. The ingame browser is also very handy to have and seems to be build from Chrome's source code which means, full Java and Flash support.
In case you all are interested, I can set us up with a community page and all that.
What do you think of this idea? A good idea or not? Please reply
