The calm came back to him as he wandered the half-drowned ruins of the fortress. Here, closing his eyes, he could almost imagine himself in the far north of old Kalimdor, a young warrior ready to take the oath and join the Guardians at last. He could almost feel the land before it was broken. He could almost remember the North without the Darkness.
Elsewhere in Northrend, he could feel Its touch. Feather-light, but constantly present, like a nagging ache, it sapped the vigour from his limbs and gently, inexorably unfastened his mind. It knew him, It had touched him and hollowed him out like a slowly rotting oak; Its wrath might yet unmake and unhinge him in an instant. But perhaps this place, and its tranquility, would buy him enough time. Time to atone, in some small part, for the one vast folly of his master, that had helped to wake It from Its long sleep.
((On Thursday we got our characters as far as the Grizzly Hills, by way of Frostblade Peak, where Aldrannath finally let them in on what all the fuss has been about. Sunday evening is where the plot thickens considerably; be there or regret it! Special thanks and kudos to Sal for reorganising his RL plans (! ) to be there for what may turn out to be a rather major life event for a few characters. The actual Gundrak run is NOT likely to happen on Sunday evening, but we might get to it if we start promptly and move fast; otherwise we'll have to make a date during next week.
I am seriously thinking about using Northrend as our "home base" for a while (rather than having our characters zip back to Auberdine every couple of weeks), as most of our upcoming stories will be based there. So far we've found that it's quite practical to get our (few) lowbies around the place, and I've now found a beautiful and safe setting for an IC camp and for Rites. The approach is tricky and dangerous, mind, but that just makes it more exciting and realistic.
Low level should NOT prevent anyone from participating in any of this RP (except of course instances), but it will mean you can't really "go out" in Northrend without an escort. Ask a lvl80 for help if you're not sure how to go about getting flight points and so on. Setting your hearthstone to Dalaran, and getting the necessary FPs to take you to Star's Rest and Westfall Brigade Encampment, is *strongly* recommended.))
