Hey there folks!
The books which you can find in the gameworld are small at best. It is of course logical that Blizzard doesn't spend that much time on creating literary works in a game. The raiders must have their epics after all!
Recently, I've been playing some rather old games and ran across a particularly interesting book which I though I'd share with all of you. This isn't a Warcraft book though. If you intend to read it, its very very different and way more mature then anything Blizzard has ever created. It first featured in the game Daggerfall and is called 'The Real Barenziah'. Ingame, the old VGA pixels made this book about 40 pages long. In a browser, its still a very long read so beware.
The book is about the early and later life of Queen Barenziah and offers some look into a very perverse world at a royal court. Because this isn't Warcraft lore, some things might be a bit unclear but I think one can follow it since most things are quite well explained. Do note that I discovered a lot of Mary Sue in the story so beware. Still, I found the story very enjoyable and quite a satisfactory end.
There are actually two versions of the book. The first, which is by now almost 16 years old, is not for the faint of heart. It features the description of full blown sexual activities.
Uncensored version:www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Real_Barenziah_%28Daggerfall%29
The second version which featured in later parts of the game series comes from 2002. This is a censored version because hey: You can't have a game released with 16+ in the US if naughty activities are described.
Censored version: www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Real_Barenziah
Be warned though that even the censored version isn't for the faint of heart. Some particularly cruel events are described such as the act of abortion because an Emporer doesn't want to gain a bastard son.
Now Blizzard..give us some longer and detailed books in World of Warcraft, please?
