Short version: Seeker is the rank for new members and peripheral characters. Novice, Ranger and Elder are for initiated followers of the Way; in terms of OOC function they are identical. These three ranks depend largely on the character's age and class, so progression from one to another is rare. The First Ranger is an officer; CC Observers are officer alts; the First Elder is the GM.
- Seeker: This is the initial rank, allowing you to join us on guild chat for a trial period before your character has been accepted and initiated into the Way of Malorne. After we've had the chance to RP with you a few times, and after your character has completed at least one assignment, she can be inducted into the Way of Malorne with the Rite of Tranquility.
A seeker has no particular charge; it is for them to decide whether they are ready to commit their lives to the Hunt and the Way of Malorne. When they are ready to embark on the Hunt, they receive their first words of guidance in the Rite of Tranquility.
The Seeker rank also includes a few allied Kaldorei characters who have some contact with the followers of the Way, but do not particularly seek to follow its tenets. All of these are alts of active members. - Novice: This is for characters who have been initiated, but have not yet completed their training as a Druid, Sentinel, or whatever. It is the most natural rank for characters under level 60 (unless the character is experienced but unable to fight effectively for some reason), and for in-character trainees in any class. Once your character has satisfied their trainers and Elders that they are competent in their calling, they can progress to the next rank.
Novices are assigned to accompany a ranger or an Elder as they roam the wild and pursue the Hunt. In so doing, they learn both practical skills and spiritual insight. In due time, they may be found worthy to Hunt alone, and be called rangers. - Ranger: This is the standard member rank for all classes. Newly initiated characters above level 60, who are fully adult (preferably over 300 years) and fully trained, automatically receive this rank.
A ranger of the Way of Malorne is charged with the Hunt; roaming the wild in search of disturbances in the Balance, or signs that indicate the will of Malorne. Younger Druids and Priestesses are also expected to travel the world, exploring the forests and seeking out threats to the Balance, exactly as hunters and other combat classes do. In the Rite of the Hunt (or sometimes the Rite of Tranquility) they return to their Elders, to speak of what they have seen and receive guidance for their ongoing Hunt. - First Ranger: Caranir has been appointed by the Elders to command the Rangers and Novices in battle, and to deal with matters they are too otherworldly to pay much attention to. OOC, Caranir is also the guild's only actual officer, though a couple of other veterans also advise the GM.
- Elder: Druids or Priestesses (or exceptionally, other classes) of great age and acknowledged wisdom, who guide their fellow Kaldorei in the Way of Malorne. Elders are always millennia old, so if your character is relatively young, he or she cannot attain this rank.
The Elders of the Way of Malorne have spent many, many centuries in the Hunt, and grown wise in the ways of the Balance and the omens of Malorne. No Kaldorei knows the mind of the true Guide, nor perceives the will of their Mother, but Elders seek to help the rangers interpret the signs and guidance they receive in their Hunt, to the best of their understanding. - Cenarion Circle (CC) Observer: Senior Druids of the Cenarion Circle who have been appointed to liaise with the followers of the Way of Malorne. Currently Rommos (= Caranir) and Kelenos (= Aldrannath), this is an officer rank for OOC purposes.
- First Elder: Aldrannath, who for OOC purposes is the Guildmaster. First among equals of the Elders, the First Elder has no special authority in-character, but is generally treated with respect.
