The rain was pounding down hard and the ground was starting to get slick with mud. The screams of confusion were somehow gratifying.
Cyrine had slain a Venture Co. Logger and left the body somewhere where it would be easily found. The distraction would serve her well. The guards nearby left their posts and Cyrine moved in. She found a worthy hiding place in the trees and hunkered down for, what was left, of the night. She watched a few patrols pass beneath her with lamps but they failed to spot her.
Cyrine awoke shortly before dawn and from her advantage point watched what the Venture Co were doing to the forest. She remembered her orders... “Go to Stonetalon and disrupt the beings cutting down the forest. You are to stay there until relieved.”
Cyrine watched the, mainly, goblins and humans cutting down the trees with large machines and sending them to a building at the back of the camp. She pulled out her telescope and peered through. She saw a steam powered lumber mill. In her head she made up a list of primary targets for the nights assault.
That night she made a move towards a very large machine, which was used during the day, to can vast swaths into the forest. There were three guards by the machine that would have to be dispatched. She watched one for a time working out the best and most efficient way to remove the small problem. She got as close as she dared and fished around her person for a small pebble, however she couldn’t find one and threw a small bronze bolt and the direction that she wanted the guard to look. The bolt made a small clinking noise and it ricochet of a few branches.
The guard looked and Cyrine moved in quickly with her dagger drawn. Her hand clasped around the human’s mouth as she sank the dagger into his back. There was a muffled scream and the human went limp. Cyrine moved the corpse into the closest bush and moved on to the next guard.
Cyrine started to work out how the next bout was going to pan out... “If I move here” she thought “attack like this and move on to the next guard I could do this before the first guard has hit the floor.” She waited for the right moment, for the now first guard, to be in the right position. The first guard started to turn around towards her and she exploded from the bush and charged towards the guard in front of her with her daggers drawn before he could react, Cyrine’s dagger had connected and cut deep along the guards’ throat. The second guard, hearing the first guards gurgle turned towards her as she lunged the two daggers deep into his body. Cyrine stood there, holding the daggers and heard the last escape of breath from the guard. She pulled out the daggers and watched the body collapse to the ground.
Cyrine looked up at the machine and, from her pack, pulled out six tubes, full of an interesting explosive concoction. Thinking hard she put two back into her pack and started to inspect the machine and worked out where to put the explosives. A few minutes later there was a large explosion and pieces of metal rained down in a large circle.
Cyrine moved towards the lumber mill after a brief detour to the right. She arrived at the lumber mill. It was mostly deserted apart from a few guards. This time she simply snuck around and threw the last two lit sticks of explosives into the mills machinery and run. Running for her life she ran right past two guards and went straight into the shadows. However the shadows soon disappeared as the lumber mill exploded in a ball of fire, the two guards that were attempting to follow Cyrine stopped and were thrown forward with the force of the explosion.
Cyrine vanished into the night.
Cyrine was relieved only a few days later, as the Sentinels were attracted by the large explosions. Cyrine was reprimanded for blowing large chunks’ out of Stonetalon. But no-one commented about the stopping the deforestation.
