Thelnaya Stillwater is a Huntress of the Sentinels, and holds the honorary rank of Lieutenant in the Alliance army from her time on secondment in the East.
Race and Class
Kaldorei Warrior
Observable traits
Thelnaya is physically unremarkable; she has a plain face made somewhat hard by millennia of military discipline. She has an average height (for a female Kaldorei) and a moderately muscular frame. She moves, however, with the inimitable elegance and precision of a Kaldorei fighter with centuries of training, and she has the relaxed, authoritative presence of an experienced officer.
Family
Mother: Now retired from active military service, Commander Delena Stillwater teaches tactics to Sentinel officers in Darnassus.
Father: Kreneon Stargleam is one of the treasured master metalworkers of the Kaldorei, and still works in Astranaar, forging blades and armour for the Sentinels.
Thelnaya also has: an older sister, a more senior Sentinel officer; a younger sister, also a Huntress; and a younger brother who assists her father at his work in Astranaar. Three other siblings (two Sentinels and a Druid) died at Mount Hyjal.
Thelnaya has borne three daughters and a son; all are now dead.
Background
Born three and a half millennia ago, daughter to a Commander and a weaponsmith, Thelnaya was fated to be a Sentinel, like all of her blood-sisters before and after her. She embraced the calling, which suited her driven, self-disciplined nature well, and worked hard at her training despite not being a particularly talented fighter. She compensated for what she lacked in talent with sheer expertise, developing her technique to a level of perfection unimaginable to shorter-lived races. Her native tactical brilliance, however, was unmistakeable, and she was named Huntress in her seventh century. She has fought in every significant Kaldorei conflict of the last three millennia.
Her father taught her to know and cherish the blades she used, and it seemed to her a natural extension of her training that she should learn his craft. This came to her somewhat more easily than combat, and with time her weaponcrafting became almost as proficient as her fighting.
Thelnaya lost her first partner and two children in the War of the Shifting Sands. Some centuries later, she began a second relationship, this time with a Warden of the Circle, but he was killed along with their two daughters in the Battle of Mount Hyjal. She has no apparent interest in any further relationships or children.
After the Third War, Thelnaya was one of several Sentinel officers sent to the East to study the allied races' methods of war. Assigned to the Kaldorei military attaché in Ironforge, she studied artillery, explosives and engineering, becoming one of the few dwarf-trained Sappers among the Sentinels. She was later seconded to the 7th Legion as an observing officer, and fought with them in Outland against the followers of Illidan.
With the rise of the Lich King, she travelled to Northrend, and fought with the 7th Legion in the early stages of the war against the Scourge. Later, she was recalled to her unit, and fought as a Sentinel in Wintergrasp. After several months of bitter fighting, she was severely injured when a demolition charge exploded prematurely; the blast almost killed her, breaking most of her bones. She spent the last few months of the War recovering in Darnassus.
She has been more active since the Shattering, though still not fit for combat; her recovery and retraining are a work in progress.
Personal notes
Thelnaya is a pragmatist and a diplomat, but she has high expectations of Kaldorei in general, and of Sentinels in particular. While often friendly and polite, she has an acerbic wit, and is liable to use it when confronted with younger Sentinels who, in her eyes, do not take their duties seriously.
Rumours and reputation
A reasonably respected junior staff officer of the Sentinels.
